Skydive With God

Early in our marriage my husband and I had the opportunity to go skydiving. It was a last minute decision that I wasn’t initially prepared for. While I wasn’t excited about the adventure at first, a sudden calm or shock came over me during the plane ride. I watched the other passengers jump before me with amazement. The view from the plane at 13,000 feet alone was beautiful.

Then it was my turn! I wasn’t alone, as my tandem instructor was attached to my back. A funny but experienced diver that helped navigate my path. I don’t remember his words but I remember that they signaled it was time to leap. And leap we did! It was an immediate cold rush! During this cold rush is when I lost both of my slip on shoes in air (that’s what happens when your not prepared)! Then we reached the point when he opened our parachute. Suddenly, everything was calm! It was the most breathtaking scene! God’s creation from above is such a wonder. I realized how small we are in the grand comparison of all He has created.

I realized some time later that the parachute is like the hands of God and that rush of wind I experienced is much like the flood of grace that He readily gives to each of us.

Deuteronomy 31: 8 NKJV And the Lord, He is the One who goes before you. He will be with you, He will not leave you nor forsake you; do not fear nor be dismayed

2 Corinthians 12: 9 NKJV And He said to me, “My grace is sufficient for you, for My strength is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore most gladly I will rather boast in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

Ephesians 2: 8-9 NKJV For by grace you have been saved through faith, and that not of yourselves; it is the gift of God, not of works, lest anyone should boast.

Isaiah 9: 6 NKJV For to us a Child shall be born, to us a Son shall be given;
And the government shall be upon His shoulder,
And His name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God,
Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.

Our walk with the Lord will often be like a skydive experience. We will watch the lives of other believers and wonder how we can receive the light that we see in them. There will be the amazing rush of His presence over us when we make the decision to follow Christ. There will also be the calm and beautiful wonderment of all He is doing in us, through us, and has done for us. We may loose the parts of ourselves we thought we needed.Like my tandem skydive instructor He is there to guide us.

Psalm 119:105 NKJV Your word is a lamp to my feet
And a light to my path.

As my husband initiated this skydiving adventure and encouraged me along the way, we need the same in our walk with Christ. Let us all continue to share the love of Christ and His availability to us all.

Ephesians 3: 8-10 MSG This is my life work: helping people understand and respond to this Message. It came as a sheer gift to me, a real surprise, God handling all the details. When it came to presenting the Message to people who had no background in God’s way, I was the least qualified of any of the available Christians. God saw to it that I was equipped, but you can be sure that it had nothing to do with my natural abilities.

8-10 And so here I am, preaching and writing about things that are way over my head, the inexhaustible riches and generosity of Christ. My task is to bring out in the open and make plain what God, who created all this in the first place, has been doing in secret and behind the scenes all along. Through followers of Jesus like yourselves gathered in churches, this extraordinary plan of God is becoming known and talked about even among the angels!
