Hearing Yourself

In recent weeks I’ve had the opportunity to pay close attention to conversations of others. Some of these conversations made me stop and think, what do I sound like to those in my sphere of influence?

As a mom I often get tired of hearing my own voice say the same thing repeatedly, and unfortunately sometimes yelling it. However the word of God reminds us;

Proverbs 16:24 TLB Kind words are like honey– enjoyable and healthful.

Proverbs 31:26 TLB When she speaks, her words are wise, and kindness is the rule for everything she says.

Proverbs 15:1 TLB A gentle answer turns away wrath, but harsh words cause quarrels.

Each of these scriptures reminded me of my side of every conversation. How does my speech, tone, and “advice” reflect my time alone with the Lord. No matter the subject, each of us are called to be salt to the earth.

Matthew 5:13 MSG Let me tell you why you are here. You’re here to be salt-seasoning that brings out the God-flavors of this earth. If you lose your saltiness, how will people taste godliness? You’ve lost your usefulness and will end up in the garbage.

My prayer is that each of us hear what we are placing in the hearts of those in our sphere of influence; our spouses, children, friends, and coworkers. Lets be diligent in encouraging others.
